Hello all! Yesterday was a very stormy day here in Western Washington. It poured all morning. It rained about 1 inch - that's 1 foot of snow for those of you in snowy climates. And then the wind started. It was very windy from 1:30p to 8p. The gusts got as high as 62 mph. Our power flickered a couple of times but kept coming back on, so I thought the worst was over. I was wrong. At 4:30p, the power went out and stayed out until about 2am.
The ferry that Brent normally rides home was too small to get through the rough waves, so he had to take a bigger one. They were even talking about canceling all ferry service to Port Orchard and busing everyone home. It was crazy!
Kitsap County was hit the hardest. They said on the news that 26,000 people were without power last night. About 10,000 are still without power. We're really glad to not be one of them.
We also really thankful that we didn't have more damage. One of my dahlia's got blown over and broken and there are a couple of largish branches that came down, but nothing hit our house, so that's good.
Needless to say, it was a dark and stormy night. We cooked dinner on our camp stove and played some Skipbo. It's really quiet and dark when there aren't any lights around. It's funny how much you come to rely on something! You don't realize how much until it's gone!
Have a good day! Hope the weather is better when you are!

I am so glad that you guys are alright. I think nights like that are kindof fun, but also scary at the same time!!
Glad that Brent made it home safe and sound too! Did Ryan make it home okay?
Love you guys!
We actually had fun, but only because we were warm and John was home! Last December was not fun... So glad the power is back on!
Wow! Sorry to hear about your power outage. I think we can top it, though. Last summer we had the power go out in our neighborhood when the temperature was in excess of 110 degrees. It was out for over a day, and at night it only cooled down to about 95 degrees. In the house, it was sweltering without any air conditioning. For the life of us, we don't know why we didn't just pack up and go to a hotel or something. Figured we'd tough it out and save the money since we didn't know when it was going to come back on. We consider it a lesson hard-learned. Next time we're outta here!
Its nice to have an occasional day/night like that to remind us of how spoiled we truly are!
Yes, it is dark enough in your area without all the power being off. I couldn't have even used my little nightlite! Glad it came back on and has been up and running since. Did you build a fire?
Glad you survived and Brent made it home ok!!
Love you!
